Barrier coat is a 2-part epoxy-based paint. This paint is applied directly onto the gelcoat of your boat, prior to the application of anti-fouling bottom paint. Barrier coat acts as a protective layer on the bottom of a boat and prevents osmotic blistering. Osmotic blistering is a common problem for fiberglass boats, where water penetrates the gel coat and becomes trapped between the gel coat and the fiberglass laminate. Over time, this trapped water can cause the fibers in the laminate to deteriorate, leading to the formation of blisters. It is highly recommended that you barrier coat your vessel prior to applying antifouling bottom paint.
